the first squares returned by the makers for inclusion in the blanket

Did you know that my very first Stitch-A-Long is currently underway, bringing a posse of creative textile crafters together in collaboration to make a blanket – more like a quilt than an typical blanket actually.

Each participant purchased a kit constructed from all recycled materials from my shop back in May. They attended my live (or watched recordings of my) online Sewing Circles where we stitched and embellished the kits into blanket squares with help and support from the group.  Questions that arose between gatherings were fielded in our private online community.  Friendships were made, family connections were strengthened and the empowerment continues to be palpable.

Now I await the return of all the lovingly stitched components to compile into a rich, collaborative creation that will be auctioned online with proceeds supporting our local women’s shelter.

The idea is this.

We all want to help make the world a better environment for our most vulnerable.  We all want to gather and lean in to support and be supportive.  The circle I have been creating since I started on this journey back in 1989 is full of people who are drawn to textile work and environmentalism.  There are those who have been with me since my start, who know of the hurdles I have leapt including extricating myself from a few years of of physically abuse.

Participation in this Stitch-A-Long has unfolded in unexpected ways with a level of pure contentment unforeseen.  It has allowed each participant to give back, or pay forward.  It has enabled us to create with intention, connection, and fun. AND it is allowing us to shine light on a productive nurturing ways to reach out and support those in need.

Did you know that one in four households in the UnitedStates has a reported case of Domestic Violence?  I am committed to putting a dent in that number.  If you are too, leave a comment.  Hop on the waitlist for thenext Stitch-A-Long here and follow along here to see the construction and culmination of the project.
