06.02.20 - Journal

For the last 30 (holy shit, YES! 30) years I have beenmaking used and discarded clothing into potholder rugs, blankets and restyledclothing.  I’ve often thought of it as asecret collaboration of all the people involved, starting with the clothingdesigners, makers, wearers, discarders, sellers, purchasers and recyclers.  There are 441 three-inch squares in thisparticular blanket.  Can you imagine ifeach of those little scraps was harvested from a different garment and allthose people (and there would be nearly 4000 of them) realized that they hadcontributed to a collaboration that brought something beautiful together from apile of what many would have thought was trash? Its all stuff that was headed for the landfill.

In a more connected way than ever, this construction processis the narrative we see unfolding before our eyes in this country.  I strongly believe that we have the power tocreate something strong, made to last and yes, beautiful from the scraps leftbehind by those who have taken their privilege for granted.  We can pick up the nice bits, step over thetrashy things and compile all the beauty together for a future where we areproud of our diversity and justice.  Then, when we are a people of fairness and integrity we can really celebrate all thatwe have overcome. #votebluenomatterwho #paradigmshift #makeshifthappen #BLM#BlackLivesMatter #Imanally #speakup #racialjustice #madeformore #goaldigger#humanharmony #reparations #thetimeisnow #enoughforall #ecoentrepreneur #eco#green #ecoliving #Greenlifestyle #justiceforall#thesystemisnotbrokenitwasmadethisway #crispinaffrench #truthtopower #IcallBS#votehimout #privileged #madebyCrispinaffrench
