I’ve been walking in the mornings allowing me the time and space to meditate on things that don’t get attention during the rest of my days.
The current state of the government in the United States really worries me. So much has been said about the countless offenses Donald Trump has already made and in less than a month he will be sworn into office. This man, who has no respect for women, or any sort of alternative lifestyle, will soon hold what is arguably the most powerful position on the planet. He wants to build upon the nuclear arsenal. The cohorts he has lined up to work with him are judgmental bigots from the richest 1%. Everything about the change of government rubs against my values.
As my family spends a long-planned extended stay in Ireland, my husband and I are pondering our future. Wondering about our safety and well-being for the first time in our lives. Yesterday we had an impromptu family discussion about where, in the world, is safe to live – safe for us to live. The beautiful Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts is our home. We are deeply rooted in our community there and heavily invested in developing Shire City Sanctuary Inc. to nurture the alternative way we have chosen to live our lives. We are blessed to be surrounded by collaborators there but still there is an urge to leave that all at a distance while we weather the next four years in a place where violence is rare, where acceptance is the rule and even police don’t carry guns.
While this conundrum weighs heavily on our minds we will observe what unfolds while meditating on what we can do to most productively nurture our collective well-being.
May this Christmas Day be one shared with those who nurture and connect – shining light in the darkest part of the year and on into the future. Sending love to you all from our Irish Adventure.
